چکیده

The purpose of this study was to determine the accumulation levels ten metals (Fe, Zn, Cd, Cu, Co, Ni, Al, Mn, Pb, and Cr) in muscle tissues Actina equina indvduals. A total 120 individuals A. were collected at six different stations İskenderun Bay spring 2013. heavy found vary significantly among stations. mean concentrations Fe highest Samandağ station (105.11 ± 74.28 mg/kg) whereas lowest average value Co (0.84 0.10 obtained Dörtyol station. Heavy metal concentratıons tissue ordered as Fe>Zn>Mn>Al>Cr>Cu>Pb>Ni>Cd>Co, respectively. This is first detailed bioaccumulation conducted with Bay.

Granulocytes of sea anemone Actinia equina (Linnaeus, 1758) body fluid contain and release cytolysins forming plaques of lysis

The Cnidaria phylum includes organisms that are among the most poisonous animals. The exact composition of cnidarian bioactive molecules is not known in detail, but little is known on the cells that produce the toxins. Here we have shown that the presence of cytolysins is not exclusive of nematocysts. A plaque-forming assay was carried out with cell populations extracted from the percoled body ...

High In Situ Repeatability of Behaviour Indicates Animal Personality in the Beadlet Anemone Actinia equina (Cnidaria)

'Animal personality' means that individuals differ from one another in either single behaviours or suites of related behaviours in a way that is consistent over time. It is usually assumed that such consistent individual differences in behaviour are driven by variation in how individuals respond to information about their environment, rather than by differences in external factors such as varia...

Digenean parasites of Sarpa salpa (Linnaeus, 1758) from the Eastern Mediterranean coasts of Turkey.

OBJECTIVE The purpose of the study is to determine the digenean parasite fauna of Sarpa salpa (Sparidae) from the Mediterranean Sea. METHODS The fish samples from the coasts of Mersin-Anamur were brought to the Parasitology Research Laboratory of the Biology Department of Science Faculty of Atatürk University, dissected and investigated parasitologically. The parasites that were found in the ...

Effects of temperature on growth rate and body size in the Mediterranean Sea anemone Actinia equina

Actinia equina is the most common sea anemone in the rocky intertidal zone of the Mediterranean coast of Israel, yet little is known about its biology in this habitat. We examined variation in polyp growth at several temperatures within the local range. Under laboratory conditions, only polyps at low temperatures (15 and 20 8C) grew, whereas those at higher temperatures (25 and 30 8C) lost body...

A Biomonitoring Study: Heavy Metals in Monodonta turbinata (Mollusca: Gastropoda) From Iskenderun Bay, North-Eastern Mediterranean

Metal (Fe, Zn, Cd, Cu, Co, Ni, Al, Mn, Pb and Cr) levels were investigated in the muscle tissue of Monodonta turbinata from seven different stations in Iskenderun Bay. Accumulations of all elements were effected from seasonal changes in all stations. The highest levels of Zn (101.42 g/g), Cd (9.01 g/g), Cu (334.47 g/g) and Pb (90.8 g/g) were found in the station Çevlik. However, the highest...
